Knee Surgery
Personalised knee replacement
A knee replacement (also called total knee arthroplasty) is a surgical procedure where the diseased and arthritic surfaces of the bones are replaced with a prosthesis.
Partial knee replacement
In a partial knee replacement (unicompartmental knee arthroplasty), only the damaged compartment of your knee is replaced, retaining the healthy compartments. This enables you to retain more of your natural bone, tissue and ligaments.
ACL Reconstruction
Most ACL ruptures cannot be stitched back together or repaired.
Once the ACL has ruptured, the ligament must be reconstructed to restore knee stability. The torn ligament is replaced with a tissue graft which is harvested from another part of your leg.
Knee Arthroscopy
Knee arthroscopy is a keyhole surgical procedure that allows the surgeon to see inside the knee joint using small 1cm incisions. During knee arthroscopy, the surgeon inserts a small camera into your knee joint.
Surgery for Patella Dislocations
The surgery for patella dislocations depends to a large extent on the cause of the instability. The most common procedures that are used for a dislocating patella are, Medial Patello-Femoral Ligament (MPFL) Reconstruction, Tibial Tubercle Transfer (TTT) and Lateral Release.
Knee Conditions
Knee arthritis
Arthritis is inflammation of one or more of your joints. In an arthritic knee, the inflammation leads to cartilage damage and loss which results in pain and stiffness.
There is no cure for arthritis of the knee, but there are a number of options available to manage your pain and keep you active.
ACL Injury
Injury to the anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most common knee injuries. Athletes who participate in high demand sports like football, soccer, netball and basketball are at risk of injuring their anterior cruciate ligaments.
Torn Meniscus
The meniscus is a wedge-shaped piece of fibrocartilage in your knee between the tibia (shinbone) and femur (thighbone). You have two menisci: the lateral meniscus on the outside of your knee and the medial meniscus on the inside.
Dislocated Knee Cap (patella)
The patella or knee cap is the small bone located in front of the knee joint. It protects the knee and connects the quadriceps muscles in the front of the thigh to the tibia.
